High School Graduation

  • Student: Alfonse Gonnella
  • School: JTHS

The following comes from reader Loretta Gonnella. It is a graduation message to her son Alfonse Gonnella, a member of the Jefferson Township High School Class of 2012.

Tonight another flock of Falcons will take flight. I wish them health, happiness, and passion for what ever choices they make.

For our son Alfonse, thank you for taking flight so beautifully. I want to give you something to carry in your pocket tonight... I am remembering your first word, first hug, first step, first lost tooth put under your pillow. First hair cut. First night looking through a telescope and seeing the wonder in your eyes. First note tucked into your lunch. First note left for me under my pillow! First microscope, first drum, and yes, your first day taking the bus and going to school.

Thank you Mrs. Segal, you started his love for learning in a safe, happy, creative kindergarten classroom. You also fostered his love of music and performing by allowing him to dress up and play a KISS song to his class!

So tonight when I hear Pomp and Circumstance, and watch you walk by so big and confident, I will catch a glimpse of little Al trying to keep up holding the hem of your blue robe. That's when I will grab a tissue and have a good happy cry. Missing my little pal, but amazed at the wonderful person you have become.

Tucked in your pocket will be your love of learning, your music, your kindness and compassion for others, your love for your family and God. And all the dreams you will pursue.

Congratulations and Thank you for taking me on this wonderful adventure!

Loretta, how time does fly, I remember watching our son Alfonse leaving on the school bus for his first day at kindergarten. I looked over to you and saw you crying, 13 years later you had the same look and tears in your eyes watching him graduate.
