Bragg Principal Leaves For Sparta Post

Award-winning principal from Chester Consolidated School to become principal of Sparta High School.

Bragg Principal Dan Johnson loves a challenge, and his latest career move will take the principal of the year (both state and national) to take the big chair as principal of Sparta High School.

The Jefferson resident announced Monday night his official acceptance as principal of the Sussex County High School. According to a report from the Sparta Independent, former Sparta High School Principal and current superintendent Dennis Tobin put together a search committee for his successor that narrowed the field from many internal and external candidates down to four.

After interviews with four finalists, Johnson was brought before the full board for a final vote at their meeting on Monday night at the high school media center.

"I am so excited and proud to be part of such a great school district," Johnson said.

Look for Patch's full exit interview with Dan Johnson this week, and post your congratulations and well wishes in our comments section.

Johnson was a longtime basketball coach so he is at home in the gym. But to watch him interact with all of these kids and to see his approach was a pleasure in my six months here. I can see why you might have made the mistake, as he is like ten feet tall.
