Detours Set for Bridge Construction

Check here to see what your temporary driving route will be.

Traveling around town will get a bit trickier for Jefferson residents in January, when the state Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to start construction on the bridge over Route 15 on Weldon Road.

The project will be completed in four stages, according to the DOT. One lane in each direction will be maintained on Weldon and Espanong Roads throughout the project, DOT officials said. Ramps will be closed during stages two and three, ranging from about March until the summer.

During stage two, the ramp from Weldon Road going south to Route 15 South will be closed. The detour will involve traffic continuing onto Espanong Road, turning left onto Edison Road, and then exiting onto Route 15 South.

Also during this stage, the ramp from Route 15 North to Weldon Road south will be closed. Traffic will be directed to turn left onto Edison Road by using the existing jughandle at Route 15 North/Edison Road, continue along Edison Road westbound and turn right onto Espanong Road.

During stage three, the ramp from Espanong Road to Route 15 North will be closed. Traffic will be directed to take Espanong Road South to Edison Road, turn left onto Edison Road eastbound and turn left onto Route 15 North. In addition, the ramp from Route 15 South to Weldon Road North will be closed. Traffic will continue along Route 15 South to Edison Road, turn right onto Edison Road and turn right onto Espanong Road, which changes to Weldon Road.

The bridge will get an uplift that will include deck slab and parapet replacement and repairs to supra- and sub-structures.

This should be fun during school drop off and pick up at briggs and stanlick. Oh and then I have to commute to jtms daily. This is going to be crazy. Any idea how long this is going to go on for? The route 15 bridge in dover took forever...granted, it was a huge project.

Wonderful! Edison Road will have even more speeding cars racing up and down the street. I guess there is no other alternative but this stinks.

Jodi, according to the DOT's plans, the project should take about a year. But the ramps won't all be closed at the same time, and they won't be closed for the whole year.
