Full-Time Meds Drop Off Box Opened by Cops

Police department lobby will be location for 24-7 disposal center.

The Jefferson Township Police Department has set up a 24-hour, seven day a week drop-off box for residents’ unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

The Drug Take-Back Program will have a drop box in the main lobby of the police department on Weldon Road in Oak Ridge, according to Capt. Eric Wilsusen.

Approved items for disposal include:

  • Prescription and over-the-counter medications
  • Vitamins
  • Medication Samples
  • Veterinary Medications
  • Narcotics
  • Empty Containers

Non-approved items include:

  • Needles of any kind
  • IV Bags
  • Personal Care Products
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Inhalers
  • Thermometers and other items containing Mercury

“By properly disposing of your prescriptions, you are contributing to the safety and well-being of your community’s youth: the abuse of prescription and over-the-counter medications are on the rise, due in part to these drugs being easily accessible,” Chief Kevin Craig said in a statement.
