Giants Win, Middle School Video Top Week in Review

Also, prosecutors close the investigation into the death of Christine King of Oak Ridge.

 

Lots of goings-on in and around Jefferson this week. Did you miss any of it? Fear not, because Jefferson Patch has got you covered. Here’s some highlights of stories you may have missed on Patch this week.

Freeholder Margaret Nordstrom was ordered to vacate her seat by an appeals court this week. The court ruled that her narrow victory in the June 2011 primary was “improperly decided.” Her seat currently remains vacant.

Morris County prosecutor Robert Bianchi announced that the investigation into the death of Christine King of Oak Ridge was closed. It was determined that there was no relationship between King and her killer, Leonardo Parera. The prosecutor’s office also found that police were justified in shooting and ultimately killing Parera.

Students and teachers at Jefferson Middle School are eligible for $100,000 in technology grant money as a result of the video they produced for the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest. The school is guaranteed $70,000 for placing in the top 12 in videos. You can vote for their video to win additional grant money.

President Obama announced that New Jersey is one of 10 states being given a waiver on the infamous No Child Left Behind act.

There was something about a rather important football game earlier this week…and we highlighted the Giants’ victory parade after last weekend’s Super Bowl win.

The Lake Hopatcong Elks held the third annual Leap in the Lake fundraiser for special needs of children in the 11 towns the Elks serve.
