Speaking With Public Officials Workshop: Problem Resolution
Where/When: From 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 21 at Centenary College in Parsippany.
Why Go: Because you’re a business owner who wants to learn how to speak with public officials. An associate professor of marketing and management at Monmouth University will lead the workshop.

Beginner Running Group
Where/When: Beginning at 6 p.m., Thursdays at The Running Company in Morristown..
Why Go: If you’re a beginning runner, then the 10- to 11-minute-per-mile pace (walking breaks allowed), should not be too daunting.
Pricing: Free.

Gallery Tour and Artist Talk With Lynn Vergano
Where/When: At the Morris Museum at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.
Why Go: Vergano will lead a tour of an exhibit at the museum, which features her works, titled, “Beauty in the Brushstroke: Chinese Brush Painting.” 
Pricing: $5 for members, $7 for non-members.

Divorce 101
Where/When: From 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kinnelon Public Library on Thursday, April 21.
Why Go: Well, if you’re recently divorced, then the advice of the New Jersey divorce attorney, financial adviser and mental health professional that will all be present at this event might be welcome, or needed.

Learn About Social Security and Medicare
Where/When: At the Senior House in Montville from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.
Why Go: Because a retired vice president of international banking at J.P. Morgan Chase will discuss Social Security, and pharmaceutical writer and editor Laurie Thomas will discuss Medicare. This event is sponsored by the Montville Democratic Committee and Montville Democratic Club.
Pricing: Free.

Social Dance Party
Where/When: From 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Morristown.
Why Go: Because you want to socialize, party, or dance. So why not do all three at the same time?
Pricing: Free for students; $15 for non-students.

Karaoke at Lakeside Grill
Where/When: From 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Lakeside Grill Restaurant and Bar in Hopatcong on Thursdays.
Why Go: Because not only can you enjoy the diner-style menu or grab a drink, but you can also watch your friends attempt to sing.
Pricing: No cover.

Good Friday Blood Drive
Where/When: From 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. Luke Parish in Long Valley on Friday, April 22.
Why Go: Because what would be more good on Good Friday than giving blood?
Pricing: Free and walk-ins accepted, but to make an appointment see The Blood Center of New Jersey’s website.

ECO-Valley Community Clean-Up Day
Where/When: Check-in at the PNC Bank in Long Valley on Friday, April 22 at 10 a.m.
Why Go: Because you want to help clean-up parking lots and sidewalks, plant trees, and beautify the town.
Pricing: Free. Also: volunteers and donors are still needed.

‘Enchanted April’ Play
Where/When: At 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, at the Parsippany Playhouse in the Parsippany Community Center.
Why Go: Because, according to Alicia Ciccone’s review of the play on Parsippany Patch, “the play is a perfect mix of emotional and comedic qualities that keeps the audience on its toes.”
Pricing: $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors.

Clean-Up Day At Lake Forest
Where/When: At the Lake Forest Yacht Club in Lake Hopatcong on Saturday, April 23 beginning at 10 a.m.
Why Go: To help clean up the beach and club area before the temperature warms up and people start to flock to the lake. If it rains, though, stay home, as the clean-up will be rescheduled for the 30th. Volunteers will get coffee and doughnuts in the morning and pizza and drinks in the afternoon.
Pricing: Free.

Saturday Morning Road Ride
Where/When: Starts at Marty’s Reliable Cycle in Morristown, makes its way through Harding and Chatham, then back to Morristown, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturdays.
Why Go: The pace will be moderate for this 20-mile ride. So if you’re looking to get back into tip-top shape for the summer, this weekly bike road might be a good way to start.
Pricing: Free.

Blood Drive
Where/When: From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains on Saturday, April 23.
Why Go: Because, according to New Jersey Blood Services, the need for blood is constant and one in seven people entering a hospital will need blood. So, if you’ve got some to spare, why hold out?
Pricing: Free.

Attempt to Break a World Record for Diaper-Changing
Where/When: Beginning 12 p.m. at Postpartum Place in Chatham on Saturday, April 23.
Why Go: The event aims to raise awareness about the positive environmental impact of using cloth diapers by attempting to break a world record for the most cloth diapers ever changed simultaneously.
Pricing: Free.

Wanda Sykes to Perform
Where/When: At the Community Theatre in Morristown at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
Why Go: Because Sykes will be performing her unique style of stand-up comedy, which has made her one of the most recognized comics of the past few decades.
Pricing: Tickets range from $57 to $97.

 "Where He Lies," A Passion Play
Where/When: Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22 at Stonecrest Community Church in Warren, at 7 p.m.
Why Go: It's a contemporary play for the entire family, celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus.
Pricing: Free.

Lowes Free Tree for Earth Day
Where/When: Saturday, April 23 at all Lowe's locations.
Why Go: You can plant your free tree in honor of Earth Day.
Pricing: Free.

Birding by Bicycle
Where/When: Saturday, April 23 at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, at 9 a.m..
Why Go: It's a unique adventure to learn about bird species while enjoying the warmer weather with some excercise. 
Pricing: $15 per person, or $10 per person for members of the NJ Audobon Society.  Advanced registration is required.

Earth Day Project at Home Depot
Where/When: Saturday, April 23 from 9 am to noon at The Home Depot in Bridgeater.
Why Go: You'll build your own planter/basket for Earth Day or Easter.
Pricing: Free.

Easter Parades and Promenades
Where/When: Sunday, April 24 celebrated at Historic Smithville VillageFifth Avenue, New York City, Point Pleasant Beach or Seaside Heights.
Why Go: To don your Easter best and stop by before or after visiting with the relatives.
Pricing: Free.

 

GRAB & GO KIDS PLANNER

Ju-Jitsu Self Defense
Where/When:
 From 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at St. Jude’s Parish in Hopatcong.
Why Go: Because students of all ages and or skill levels can learn self defense with a combination of martial arts. Visitors are also welcome.
Pricing: $10 per class. Sometimes times of classes vary, so it’s best to call ahead at 973-229-9881 or email genleejujitsu@optimum.net.
Chess Club
Where/When: At 3:30 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Free Public Library on Fridays.
Why Go: Because the club, for 6- through 14-year-olds, meets every week and is a chance to hone one’s chess skills.
Pricing: Free, but registration is required. Call 973-838-0077 for more information.

Run for Tita
Where/When: At The Morristown & Morris Township Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23. 
Why Go: Because there will be a 5K run, a fitness walk, and a race for kid’s too. But more importantly: proceeds will benefit The Valerie Fund, which helps children with cancer and blood disorders.
Pricing: $27.

Super Science Saturday: ‘Biome in a Baggie’
Where/When: From noon to 2 p.m. at the Morris Museum in Morris Townshipon Saturday, April 23.
Why Go: Because children ages 5 or older can grow a plant that never needs to be watered. How cool is that?
Pricing: $3 per child plus museum admission.

Learn About Bees
Where/When: At Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township on Saturday, April 23 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Why Go: Because the staff of Fosterfields Living Historical Farm will show how they keep a bee hive healthy during “The Buzz” at the hive.
Pricing: $6 for adults; $5 for seniors 65 or older; $4 for children 4 to 16; $2 for children 2 and 3. children younger than 2 are admitted for free.

Family Activity Center at Fosterfields Farm
Where/When: From 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Townshipon Saturday, April 23.
Why Go: Because families (parents/guardians must be present) can make sheep toy crafts or play historic games.
Pricing: $6 for adults; $5 for seniors 65 or older; $4 for children 4 to 16; $2 for children 2 and 3. children younger than 2 are admitted for free.

Easter Egg Hunt
Where/When: At Grace Evangelical Free Church in Oak Ridge on Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
Why Go: Children between kindergarten and the fifth grade can hunt for Easter eggs with their families. What can be more fun than that on Easter? Make sure to bring food donations, too, as the church will be collecting food for the Jefferson Township Food Pantry.
Pricing: Free.

Animals Walk and Egg Hunt
Where/When: At Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area in Kinnelon on Sunday, April 24 beginning at 10 a.m.
Why Go: Because families with children three or older can enjoy this hike and egg hunt on Easter.
Pricing: $2.

Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church's 20th Annual Easter Egg Hunt
Where/When: Saturday, April 23 at Liberty Corner Elementary School in Bernards Township, at 11 a.m.
Why Go: 3,000 Easter eggs will be stuffed with surprises.
Pricing: Free.  RSVP online requested.

Easter Carnival and Breakfast
Where/When: Saturday, April 23 at the William Annin Middle School in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To enjoy the festivities of the holiday while benefitting children with cancer and blood disorders.
Pricing: $8 per adult or $5 per child, for presales. Ticket prices will be slightly higher at the door.

Second Annual Spring Egg Hunt & Wagon/Bike Parade
Where/When: Saturday, April 23 at the Warren Township Municipal Complex, at 2 p.m.
Why Go: The fun may have been delayed by the weather, but the wait has made this event egg-tra special.
Pricing: $5 per child for the Egg Hunt. Entrance to the parade is free.

Garden Wreath Craft
Where/When: Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Warren Township Library.
Why Go Create a garden wreath while getting together with library friends.
Pricing: Free.
