Missing West Windsor Boy Found in South Carolina, Grandfather Charged

The boy was unharmed and will be turned over to child welfare officials, police say.

The 5-year-old boy who was taken from a West Windsor apartment complex was found Tuesday at a McDonald’s in South Carolina, and police have charged his grandfather in the kidnapping, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Law enforcement received information around 11:30 a.m. and the Florence Sheriff’s Department sent an officer to the McDonald’s in Florence, S.C., according to the prosecutor’s office. The officer found Morris Lundy, 50, and his grandson, David Lundy.

The boy was evaluated and found to be in good spirits and didn’t have any issues related to his asthma, the prosecutor’s officials said. While officers were searching for the boy, there was concern for his safety due to a preexisting medical condition that required medication

Officials said the boy will stay overnight in South Carolina under the care of the South Carolina Department of Social Services, the prosecutor’s office said. Officials are working to bring him back to New Jersey, where prosecutors say he will be turned over to New Jersey child welfare officials.

West Windsor Police charged Morris Lundy with kidnapping, interference with child custody and endangering the welfare of a child, the prosecutor’s office said. He is being held in the Florence County Jail pending extradition.

The kidnapping touched off a multi-state search spanning New Jersey, New York and South Carolina.
