UPDATE: More Than 7,000 Without Power in Jefferson

Residents experience more power outages Monday night from Hurricane Sandy weather impacts.

JCP&L has reported 7,013 customers are without power in Jefferson Township due to severe weather impacts from Hurricane Sandy as of 8 p.m.

The township has been experiencing power outages all day on Monday. At about 11 a.m., more than 4,500 customers lost power, and by 11:45 a.m. most of the outages were restored according to initial reports on the company's power outage map. At about 6 p.m., over 4,000 customers lost power again.

JCP&L representative Chris Eck said crews are currently out working to restore the remaining outages, and they'll continue to work until the wind picks up and the weather conditions get worse.

Eck said the customers may experience initial outages, and JCP&L will be able to repair them quickly before the storm gets worse.

JCP&L reminds residents to treat all downed wires as live and dangerous.

FirstEnergy said customers should report outages in their area by calling 888-544-4877 or by using the "Report an Outage" link on its website.

Patch will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

Using that picture of the substation underwater to headline the story is not responsible journalism. That make it appear that the substation is currently under water and it not a STOCK type photograph !
