Jefferson Township Public Library director Seth Stephens’ latest blog discusses the issue of placing a time limit on computer usage at the library.
The Jefferson Township Public Library does not place a time limit on computer use.
“The practice of the library has been to allow people to use a computer as long as they want unless someone is waiting. If we observe people waiting to use a computer, we offer them the use of one of the library’s laptops,” Stephens wrote in his blog.
He noted that some libraries limit computer time because the directors believe that “it’s a rare person who will return to the library to use a computer if they are initially turned away.”

I don't think the time should be limited unless it becomes a problem. And it sounds like it is not at this time; sounds like the library staff has it under control. Some are not lucky enough to have funds for equipment or computer services.

I have never personally seen all of the library computers in use at the same time... but if they were all in use & there was someone who needed to use it- first , how would anyone know unless they asked, and second, how would it be determined who frees up a computer to let the person waiting use it? Maybe there should be a log book that you just fill in when you start using the computers, so that only in the case of a wait they would know who was on the longest to ask them to free up their computer?
