POLL: Is Random Drug Testing a Good Idea?
Jefferson considers implementing policy at high school.
The Jefferson Township school district will vote on a policy instituting voluntary random drug testing at the high school starting this fall. If the policy is put into place, parents will be able to sign their high school children up for testing at no cost to them.
What do you think about this policy? Take our poll, and give us your thoughts in the comment section.

It is about time , this should have been done a long time ago. It should be mandatory. Some parents don't even know there kids are doing drugs but to ask the parents to voluntary sign there children up is going to cause conflict. It should be the board of educations requirement. Why shouldn't they be involved. Don't they want to make sure all students get a good education. How can the students get a good education if half the students are high on drugs.I would also like to know what the consequences are going to be if they do test positive.

Diana I couldn't agree with you more. The sad thing is many parents are aware their kids do drugs and have the "they're just kids, it's just a faze". Or the "not my kid" attitude. I will willingly sign up for this and hope other parents do as well. It doesn't matter if the student is an athlete or not, but many athletes are held to a higher standard and should certainly be tested. If half a team tests positive and can't play too bad, they shouldn't be doing drugs in the first place. And for all the other students who fall through the cracks, maybe now someone will look and say we do have a drug problem in Jefferson.

This has been an on going problem for years. If there were more parents like us out there this may not be such a huge problem. I think it should also include the middle school. That is where it all begins. No one takes it seriously enough until someone gets hurt or overdoses.
