Rate Jefferson's Response to Sandy

How do you think the township is doing?

It's been about two weeks since Hurricane Sandy came ashore to wreak havoc on Jefferson Township and the tri-state area as a whole. Now, the town continues to dig out of the debris to clear trees from homes and roads, and restore power to residents.

But how do you think the township has done so far?

Jefferson Township Mayor Russell Felter said the majority of the township's power was restored by Sunday night after nearly two weeks of JCP&L and DPW crews cleaning the debris.

Township officials opened comfort centers two days after the storm, and the OEM has also been sending out alerts to residents.

All the Jefferson Township officials,Volunteers,OEM,DPW,REC dept.Police,Fire and Rescue and CERT did a fantastic job of taking care of our residents and keeping them informed during the power outages. Jefferson Township is a model on how emergencies should be handled. Thank you! I urge all citizens to sign up for the Honeywell Alert System. It really works!

I appreciated that Mayor Felter and other town officials came to the warming centers to give up-to-date information about power outage status. Emergency services seemed well organized and the volunteers were wonderful. Jefferson Township rose to the challenge of Sandy's wake.

The alerts I received thru the honeywell system were excellent. I no longer live in town but dont know how to unsubscribe. I live in West Milford now and the alerts from them didn't start for days after the storm and were always too little too late. Great job Jefferson, other towns need to take a clue from what you have done!

The town's response has been amazing. Most roads except the worst were cleared within a day or to. While other towns were delayed in red tape and trying to decide to approve the work, our DPW did not delay. The night of the storm, I heard some of the first responder calls on a pager and they were scary. JTFD2 averted a disaster at my neighbors house w/ propane tanks leaking after a tree dislodged them. Our town always warming and charging stations up long before many other towns do. One thing I've always told people about living in J-Town. My taxes aren't any higher than most other towns and I have a government that is prudent w/ our funds and I feel I get something for my tax dollar ! Try living in a town where your taxes don't pay for your own police, don't include garbage, didn't have warming centers etc up for days. Our citizens were also amazing through all of this.

The DPW crew working in the Prospect Point area was top notch! There were 7 trees laying across Schwarz Blvd and they had them cleared in an afternoon. They then came back the next day and removed trees laying on people's houses. These guys were working 12+ hour days to get it all done. GREAT JOB GUYS!
