Suit To Be Filed in Alleged High School Bullying Case
Michael and Elaine Attanasio offered notice of intent to sue the district.
A township couple who claim their son was “harassed, intimidated and bullied by several students at Jefferson High School has filed notice of their intent to sue the Jefferson Township Board of Education as well as high school principal Karl Mundi, assistant principal Vickki Nadler, interim assistant principal Noreen Risko, student assistance counselor Joanne Martino, case manager Dr. Philip Guarraia, nurse Jane Hoffman, and teachers Kristen Mancuso, Darren Bruseo, Jodie Ciarraffo and Lauren Dexter.
Michael and Elaine Attanasio, through their attorney Darren DelSardo, on May 25 filed a Tort Claim Notice, claiming the school violated harassment, intimidation and bullying laws, and was negligent in its hiring, supervision and retention of personnel.
The notice further claims the Attanasios’ son received physical, emotional and psychological damage that resulted in permanent disability.
The next step in the process, according to Jefferson Township School Superintendent Joseph Kraemer, is for the district’s insurance company to review the case.
“As we speak, the insurance company is investigating,” he said. “They will look at all the reports, paperwork and the video filed in this case, and will then compare and analyze the data from both parties.”
Kraemer added that the insurance company will arrange a meeting with all parties involved, “hopefully by the end of June," he said.
“The insurance company will try to come up with an agreement that is satisfactory to all sides involved," Kraemer said.
As of now, Kraemer said, the school board’s attorney is monitoring the case, but is not actively involved.
Darren DelSardo, attorney for the Attanasios, did not respond to several requests for comment over the past week.
