Sunday Storm Left Downed Trees, Power Lines in Its Wake

Two vehicle accidents also happened as a result of the storm.

The storm that came through Jefferson like a train wreck on Sunday evening left some residents reeling.

Lake Shawnee was hit very hard, according to the Jefferson Township Police. There were trees down on some houses and one on a car, police said.

“A few trees came down on Berkshire Valley Road and Weldon Road, but anything that was in the roadway was quickly removed by the fire departments and Department of Public Works,” said police Captain Eric Wilsusen.

At Portofino’s Restaurant on Berkshire Valley Road, customers were held inside the building for about an hour after a primary line came down across the road.

JCP&L had to come and determine if the line was safe,” Wilsusen said. “Customers were inside for about an hour.”

Two accidents happened as a result of the storm.

On Berkshire Valley Road at Blue Road, a car was slowing down to avoid a tree in the road when it was struck from behind by another vehicle. No injuries were reported, Wilsusen said.

In another accident, a driver traveling on Route 15 South appeared to attempt a left turn from the right lane at Bowling Green Parkway. The driver struck another vehicle, and only minor injuries were reported.

“The driver wasn’t from the area, and it appears that she may have had a hard time seeing due to the heavy rain,” Wilsusen said.

Police also said that all power was restored to the township by 4 a.m. on Monday. At the height of the storm, approximately 5,000 were without power, according to JCP&L.

Our power, in the Longwood Lake section of Milton, was not restored until after 6:30am. JCP&L was unable to give us any information as to a time estimate for restoring the power as of 6am. Our section of town seems to always be the hardest hit with power outages.

Prospect Point also had several homes still w/o power until later Monday morning. Our power wasn't restored until around 10:30 or so.
