Tax Lien Sale Nets Township $182K
Back taxes, water and sewer bills purchased at auction.
Wednesday’s tax lien sale in Jefferson Township netted just over $182,000 in payments of back taxes, water and sewer charges, business administrator Jim Leach said.
The breakdown was $164,731 in unpaid taxes, $14,900 in water and $2,500 in sewer charges, with 83 liens on 76 properties being sold at auction, Leach said.
“There were 10 properties that didn’t sell,” Leach said. “The liens will revert back to the town for 18 percent interest.
“Most of the properties that didn’t sell were vacant,” he added. “
“When the tax sale listing was released to the media as a legal notice, there were just over 160 properties listed,” Pat Dale, the township’s tax collector, said.
“As there is every year, there was a flurry of payments right before the auction took place,” Leach said.
