Woman Killed in Mtn. Lakes Was From Oak Ridge

Lived in Oak Ridge section of the township

The woman fatally shot in a Mountain Lakes office building Friday night—before police killed the alleged shooter—was a Jefferson Township resident, NJ.com is reporting.

NJ.com's piece identifies the woman as Christine Capone King, 47, of the Oak Ridge section of the township. Authorities have not yet released the woman's name, but NJ.com reports a man who answered the door at King's home confirmed she was the victim.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office told Patch and other media Friday night that an unidentified gunman killed a woman—a female employee of one of the businesses at 100 Route 46, whose name police were not yet releasing. The man soon after fired three rounds at at officers outside a Route 46 business complex, and police returned fire, killing the man, the prosecutor's office said.

Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi said at the time victim's identity would not be released until next of kin could be notified.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call of a shooting at the commercial complex that consists of several buildings that house Exit Realty Gold Service, the Mental Health Association of Morris County and H20 Nails.

Bianchi would not say where the original shooting, which was reported at about 4:45 p.m., took place. However, the prosecutor said the shooter was killed in a different location than where the original incident occurred.

“There’s a tremendous amount of scene processing that has to be done because there are three locations that we have to do scene processing,” Bianchi said at a news conference Friday night. "For the first couple of hours, our primary concern was removing people from the building safely.”

The Mountain Lakes Police Department along with the Parsippany and Denville police departments were among the first to arrive on the scene. Officers determined a man was sitting in a vehicle that was in an adjacent parking lot, Bianchi said. As police approached the man, he opened fire on the officers, Bianchi said.

Employees of the business complex had barricaded themselves within three buildings on the property, Bianchi said.

Tactical teams from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and Morris County Sheriff's Office cleared all of the buildings to confirm another shooter was not on the property, Bianchi said.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit, Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit, New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit and the Morris County Medical Examiner remained on the scene late Friday night.

The incident closed Route 46 in both directions in the area for several hours during the evening commute.
