Help the Lake at Frank's Pizza, Township Ski Trips on the Way

Your daily planner for Jefferson includes news of a legendary vocalist coming to nearby Newton.

Here's what you need to know for Thursday.

  • The Lake Hopatcong Foundation hosts a restaurant night fundraiser at Frank's Pizza of Mount Arlington to support its mission to improve Lake Hopatcong for all who use it. Enjoy dinner at Franks on Thursday from 5-10 p.m. and 15 percent of your food bill will become a generous donation for the LHF. Parties of five or more are asked to make a reservation in advance at 973-398-7300. Franks Pizza is conveniently located at 181 Howard Blvd. in Mt. Arlington. You must be 21 or over to attend. To buy a ticket, contact Vicki Burke from the Oak Ridge side at 973-409-4279 or Radhika Jayakumar from the Lake Hopatcong side at 973-794-4019. For more information, call 973-663-2500 or send email to  info@lakehopatcongfoundation.org.
  • Now is the time to sign up for the Jefferson Township Recreation Department's school-based six-week ski/snowboard program at Mountain Creek in Vernon. The program is set up for residents in grades three through 12 and for their family and friends. Classes for several age groups begin next January, but if you want to save money on the tickets, now is the time to buy them. Registration is available online directly through Jefferson Township’s module on the Mountain Creek website, and the special prices you'll find there expire Nov. 25.  Find all the details on the ski/snowboard program on the township website. For more details, contact the  recreation office at 973-663-8404 or send email to cpunturieri@jeffersontownship.net.
  • Do you remember the music of the Guess Who? The band had some killer hits, including "These Eyes," "Undun," "American Woman" and "No Sugar Tonight." What made these such indelible classics? We suspect it was—and remains—the soulful and often gut-wrenching vocals of Burton Cummings. The man still sings beautifully and you can hear the power of his pipes at the Newton Theatre. The concert is Friday at 8 p.m., but we are passing on the news a day early so you have a better shot at grabbing a ticket before a sellout occurs (which happens a lot at the rockin' Newton). Tickets range from $29-$49; buy 'em online. The Newton Theatre is at 234 Spring St. in Newton.
