Wendell Berry's Tasty Poetry, Register Now for Youth/Adult Karate Classes

Here's what you need to know for Wednesday.

  • Hungry for culture? Give yourself A Taste of Poetry at the Jefferson Township Public Library. On Wednesday from 1-2 p.m., join other literacy loving adults for a monthly gathering to share a passion for poetry and prose. For November, the focus will be the poems of Wendell Berry, the Kentucky-born poet, novelist, environmental activist, cultural critic and farmer. Registration is not required, so if you have an hour free, stop in for a delicious dose of wordplay. The library is at 1031 Weldon Road in Oak Ridge.
  • This is a heads up for next week: Monday starts Jefferson Township Recreation Karate Classes for kindergarteners through adults. The program lasts 10 weeks, running through Monday, Feb. 3, 2014. There will be no class on Mondays, December 23rd and December 30th. Instructors are from the Jersey Judo Karate Academy of Kenvil and they teach the Isshinryu style of Karate. Classes are held in the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson on Weldon Road at 6:30 to 7:30 pm for those in kindergarten through fourth grade and 7:30 to 8:30 pm for fifth graders through adults. Register through the Jefferson Township Recreation Department at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, or online. and is open Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 4:30 PM and on Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm. The class costs $55 per person with a discount of $5 per person for each sibling enrolled. For additional info, contact the recreation office at 973-663-8404.
  • Sports parents  of athletes at Jefferson Township High, this announcement is for you:  At 7 p.m., a meeting will be held for high school basketball parents in the Upperclassmen Cafeteria from 7-8:30 p.m. At 7:30, JTHS lacrosse parents meet in the Underclassman Cafeteria. The high school is at 1010 Weldon Road in Oak Ridge.
