Falling Into Old Habits

During this time of year it is easy to Fall into old habits.  The excitement of summer is coming to an end.  No more long nights sitting outside or lounging by the pool.  Summer vacations are starting to become just a memory and leaving work early on Fridays is over.   Slowly but surely we all start to become less active.

Curling up on the couch to read a book or enjoy the fireplace becomes more enticing.  We start to make more comfort food and begin to hibernate.  The days pass with little thought, home and work become routine, day-in and day-out.

Most people are content with these turn of events until boredom sets in.  Then the mind becomes overwhelmed with thoughts of change:
“I want to find a new job”
“I really need to eat better”
“I want a closer relationship with my husband”
“I’d love to start taking classes at the community college”
“I should find a better way to relate to my children”
“I want to balance my work and home schedule”

As a response, some people ignore these thoughts and continue to follow their old habits.  Others may begin to change these old thought patterns.   The first step is believing that the change is possible.  Next step is creating a correct thought habit by:

1. Choose one new correct thought habit to repeat 100 times per day for 30 days through speaking, writing, thinking and reading (ie: “I can lose 20 pounds”).

2.  Don’t give up.  It takes 21 days of placing the new thought habit into your conscious to replace the old incorrect thought habit in your subconscious.

3. Celebrate the change.  Most are guaranteed to see results in 30 days though you will likely see them earlier.

4.  Once you consciously believe change can occur then act on it.  Set goals and create a plan or strategy.
