Girl Scout Receives Gold Award

Amanda Swajger honored at Township Council meeting for her recent completion of Gold Award Project.

Amanda Swajger was presented with the Gold Award by Mayor Russell Felter at Wednesday night's Township Council meeting.

Swajger, a member of Girl Scout Troop 1764, received the award for her completion of her Gold Award Project titled "Guardian Penguins," where she created picture storybooks and stuffed penguins for the children at The Goryeb Center in Morristown.

"I felt like I should do this project because I spent time in the hospital and I was glad to have something with me to comfort me throughout that whole procedure," she said. "I thought those children would really appreciate something to help them get through it as well."

While presenting the proclamation, Felter said the prestigious award is presented to someone who "must demonstrate leadership qualities, provide many hours of community service, earn merit badges, and be regimented in learning how to be a better person not only to herself but to others as well."
