Jefferson Recreation Cross Country Back This Fall

Youth cross country program is in fourth season.

The following was submitted on behalf of the Jefferson Township Recreation Department.

Returning this fall for a fourth season, the Jefferson Youth Cross Country Program will be offered by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department for all Jefferson Township residents from grades 1 through 8. 

Registration forms are available in the Recreation Department at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road in Lake Hopatcong, and in the literature display racks in the Jefferson Township Municipal Building and the Public Library.  

The participation fee will be $30 per student with checks payable to the Township of Jefferson and it covers league fees, event participation fees, and a team tee shirt.

Registration is due by Sept. 6 and any received after that date will incur a late fee of $10 for a total fee of $40 per child. 

To prepare for the fall season, the start date will be the week of August 22 with practices at the Jefferson Township High School’s Track and Cross Country course. Head Coach Gary Renshaw has announced that practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. unless specified otherwise:  Aug. 22, 27 and Aug. 28; Sept. 3, 5, 10, 12, (17-location TBA), 19, 24 and 26; Oct. (1-location TBA), 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, and 24.

All meets will take place on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. starting on Sept. 8 and continuing on Sept. 15, 22, and 29; October 6, 13, 20, and 27.  All meets are approximately 1 hour or less at the old Greystone complex now called Central Park, at 91 Central Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ 07950.
If an individual/team qualifies, the NJ State XC Meet is November 3 in Deer Path Park in Flemington, NJ.
