Lake Hopatcong Boutique Marina Honors One of Its Own

Bridge Marina staffer and CCM student William Caruso was recognized for making an 'outstanding contribution.'

Bridge Marina awarded its 2013 Bridge Marina Scholarship to William Caruso of Jefferson Township at its Labor Day event on Sept. 1.

Each year, the Lake Hopatcong marina awards a scholarship to one of its staff members to recognize his or her outstanding performance, attitude and commitment to customer service. The selection is based partially on feedback from Bridge Marina dock slip and boating club members as well.

Caruso, 19, has worked at the boutique marina for the past two years. He is an avid fisher and boater who currently attends County College of Morris, where he studies business administration.

The teen said news that he had won the scholarship was unexpected.

“I was quite surprised; it was nice to be considered," Caruso said. "I’d like to thank Bridge Marina and my fellow staff members who work with me. I’m looking forward to another great season next year.”

Caruso also thanked club members Wayne and Darlene Decker of Lafayette, who
matched the marina’s scholarship amount, thus doubling this year’s monetary award.

Marina owner Ray Fernandez said the club is pleased with its choice of Caruso.

“Choosing just one of our staff members to receive this award is always difficult," he said. "However, Will’s achievements this year rose above the rest. This season, he has taken on additional responsibilities at Bridge Marina and has risen to the occasion. He is an outstanding contribution to our staff and is keenly focused on exceptional customer service.”

Fernandez said the Bridge Marina Scholarship award program, now in its sixth year, serves a variety of purposes.

“This award not only provides us an opportunity to help our staff with furthering their education, but also allows us to recognize our staff for their hard work and efforts," he said. "It’s a pleasure to give this award each year, and I think our members are equally pleased to see our staff members recognized."

Past recipients of the scholarship include Jefferson Township residents Daniel Mickel, Denny McCormick, Tom Jauch and Scott King and Sparta Township resident Andy Richards.
