Near-Blizzard Conditions, Extreme Cold Headed This Way

Up to 10 inches of snow possible in some areas with wind chills below zero.

Heavy snow, near-blizzard conditions and wind chills below zero are expected to blast the region the next few days.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for all of North Jersey from 6 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday.

The NWS predicts 6 to 10 inches in most North Jersey areas and blizzard-like conditions Thursday night into Friday morning with wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour and wind chills as low as 15 degrees below zero.

According to Jeff Paul, director of Morris County office of emergency management, said data shows the county will likely get 4 to 7 inches of snow by Friday morning.

Light snow and freezing precipitation is expected to develop Thursday morning and continue throughout the day before intensifying in time for the evening rush, according to Sean Rowland, a meteorologist for Hackettstown-based WeatherWorks.

The storm is expected to wreak havoc on travel as many return to work and school following the holidays. NJ Transit announced Wednesday it will cross-honor all tickets on Thursday.
