Rotary Club Raises Money For Hurricane Victims

Club will hold can shake Sunday to benefit Jefferson residents.

The Jefferson Township Rotary Club will be raising money for families affected by Hurricane Sandy at a can shake on Sunday.

The club members will be standing outside the Oak Ridge A&P from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect the donations.

Rotary Club member Margit Rahill said the money will benefit families in the township to help them get through the aftermath of the tragic storm.

"With everybody going through this hurricane we don't know what we're going to get," she said, "but whatever we get will help."

Rahill said half of the proceeds will go to the families, and the other half will go towards the club's annual Christmas party for children.

Every year the club has a Christmas party for the kids in the township. About 60 kids are selected to participate by the elementary school nurses based on their needs.

This year's 47th annual party will be held at Our Lady Star of Sea Church on Dec. 12. Each kid will be given a personalized gift, have a chance to take a picture with Santa, and see a performance from the Jefferson Township Middle School choir.
