NJ Symphony Orchestra Opens Winter Festival Concert at Mayo Center

Tickets are still available for the Sunday performance.

Tan Dun's Earth Concerto requires the use of clay pots as pure-sounding instruments. That piece, along with another which inspired the artist, is on the agenda for Sunday's Winter Festival Concert, to be performed by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra at the Mayo Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m.

Earth Concerto is a mesmerizing sonic and visual experience, calling for soloists to play a battery of instruments sourced from natural materials like ceramic. Tan Dun wrote the work specifically to be performed with Mahler's Song of the Earth, a cycle on ancient Chinese poems that reflect on earthly beauty and life's transience.

Tickets are available and can be purchased via the New Jersey Symphony's website for a single concert or the entire series.
