Bridge Marina Designated 'Clean Marina' by DEP

Only freshwater marina in the state to receive the honor.

Bridge Marina completed a rigorous review from the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) to maintain its clean marina certification. Bridge Marina is still the first and only freshwater marina in Lake Hopatcong and the state of New Jersey to be designated a clean marina by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

As a certified clean marina, Bridge Marina limits its environmental impact and ensures a clean and safe environment for its customers by closely following the principles of the clean marina program, including: staff training; customer education; robust recycling efforts; spill prevention; waste wash water treatment , energy conservation efforts; and more.

During the recertification process, Mike Danko of the NJSGC evaluated Bridge Marina’s conservation and environmental efforts and reviewed the marina’s compliance with federal and state regulations.

"I’m impressed by the way Bridge Marina has embraced the Clean Marina program. The owners and staff constantly challenge themselves to improve existing or add innovative business practices to reduce or eliminate environmental impacts boating may have on the lake.  Bridge Marina has proven itself as a leader in the industry and on the lake to help promote green boating practices," Danko said.

About the marina’s successful recertification, Ray Fernandez of Bridge Marina said, “We take our environmental responsibility very seriously at Bridge Marina.  We know that all our individual actions make a cumulative, positive impact in protecting our lake.  Safeguarding Lake Hopatcong’s environment is ethically important to all of our staff.  We have more plans in the future to continue to protect and improve the lake environment. It is good for our lake, and it’s good for the environment that we are passing along to our children.”

Bridge Marina is wrapping up its 2012 boating season and winterizing boats for the winter season.  As the only certified “Clean Marina” on Lake Hopatcong, Bridge Marina uses a Waste Wash Water Collection and Treatment System; this system collects, treats and recycles all wash water from boats to ensure contaminants don’t reach neighboring Lake Hopatcong.
