Get That Perfect Gift for Your Valentine

Shops throughout the area ready for a busy week ahead.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, shops across Morris County are preparing themselves for what is sure to be a busy week leading up to the big day.

Things are especially busy this time of year in the floral industry, and , located at 322 Changebridge Road in Montville, is ready to take on the demand.

“It’s obviously the biggest day for a florist,” said Renee Simon of Petals of Pine Brook. “Mother’s Day would be the busiest weekend, this is biggest day and Christmas is the busiest season. We bring in extra people to do deliveries, work with flowers and do everything.”

Although Petals of Pine Brook specializes in flowers, the florist shop doesn’t limit itself to just flowers for Valentine’s Day.

“We sell a lot of stuffed animals with balloons, lots of specialty chocolates and plants in the holiday planters," Simon said.

Most popular, however, are the classic roses for Valentine’s Day. A dozen red roses costs $89.95 wrapped or arranged, and customers can add additional colors to their bouquets to their liking.

“Obviously, the roses are the hottest ticket. Any color, really," Simon said. “We have a huge selection of all kinds of colors; 50 percent of what we bring in is red, but it seems the colors have become very popular.”

In some cases, stores are teaming up.

In Madison,  is working in conjunction with the  to offer one dozen long-stem roses and a bottle of champagne or wine in a package deal to interested customers on Feb. 14. Roses will be available for pickup from either location, while the bottles of champagne or wine will be available for pick-up on Valentine’s Day at Madison Wine Cellar only.

While you’re in the vicinity, though, Schnipper’s is offering plenty of Valentine’s Day gifts for loved ones of either gender. In addition to paying just $29.99 for a dozen red or colored roses, shoppers can throw in a box of Nassau candy in either a heart-shaped or novelty box to put a different twist on Valentine’s Day.

“We always try to go with the quirky stuff, because people want something interesting,” said Schnipper’s co-owner Monica DeTorre.
