Restaurant Raided for Drugs Opens One Week Later

Owner of River Styx Grill posts $150,000 bail after being charged in heroin trafficking ring.

The River Styx Grill in Lake Hopatcong – a business whose owner is at the center of a multi-county drug bust – is now open and operating.

The recently opened restaurant was raided on Aug. 6 by multiple law enforcement agencies when it was revealed its owner, John Davieau of Jefferson, was allegedly part of a heroin trafficking ring between Essex, Sussex and Morris Counties.

Davieau was jailed that night but his wife, Sandy, posted his $150,000 bail Friday afternoon, according to dailyrecord.com.

While John Davieau was incarcerated, the business remained closed. Davieau’s attorney, Vincent Nuzzi, said the restaurant would be open until the state’s Alcohol Beverage Control division suspended or takes action on the establishment’s liquor license.

Sandy Davieau would not comment to Patch on the status of the business.

An employee of the business told Patch there is a full menu available, but when asked if alcohol would be served, he said “yes, shortly, I just have to get some things together.” The employee would not clarify his comment and was unsure if live entertainment would return to the business.

Zach Hosseini, a spokesperson for the Division of Alcohol Beverage Control, said they have not suspended the business's liquor license, and would not take action until any criminal proceedings concluded.

John Davieau faces 90 different charges of heroin possession and distribution.
