New Year's Party Planned at Sonny's Restaurant

As the new year approaches, local restaurants around town are organizing special New Year's Eve celebrations to get ready for 2013.

Sonny's Restaurant on the Lake, located at 57 Moquis Trail, is holding its annual holiday celebration to ring in the new year.

The Oak Ridge Italian restaurant is offering a special on Monday night from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday for $125.

The price offers a five-course meal including shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushrooms, salad, pasta and a choice of steak or fish, and open bar all night.

There will also be a DJ entertainment during the entire night.

Restaurant owner Sonny Ziba said every year more than 100 attend. He said this year he's expecting around 150 to join the party.

"It's always fun and exciting," he said. "I love all the action that goes on."

Ziba, who has owned the restaurant located on Lake Swannanoa for eight years before previously owning one in Randolph, said his celebration usually draws crowds from all over the state.

He said his restaurant was also a popular spot on Christmas Eve this year, and is also a hang out for many residents come to watch sports games.

The restaurant's normal dinner menu has a variety of chicken, steak, veal, fish, and pasta dishes all priced between $14 and $25.

The restaurant will take normal reservations from 1 until 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve before the celebration begins.

"We'll give them a great celebration," Ziba said. "We have a great time."
