West Coast Tree Company Helps With Sandy Cleanup

Adam Guy brings his Seattle company to Hopatcong and Jefferson to clean up debris from storm.

In the midst of Sandy's aftermath, an owner of tree service company from the West Coast decided to travel to New Jersey to help clean up debris left from the storm.

Seattle-based worker Adam Guy put his job by his home on hold and traveled cross-country to check out the devastation from the storm and help those in need.

When Guy, owner of AGTree, got to the state on Saturday, he was immediately told about Hopatcong and came to check out the town.

"We didn't even know about Hopatcong," he said. "I was talking to a crane operator because I didn't know where I was going to go help. They said to go to Hopatcong, so I drove out there, and just loved the town."

Guy arrived to the borough on Sunday, and said he spent the day driving around town talking to residents and businesses and letting them know about his service. He said he's already gotten a few calls, and will start his first jobs in Hopatcong on Wednesday.

He said he also drove around Jefferson, and plans on working in the township and other surrounding towns if needed.

"We're going to be taking trees off houses, cleaning up yards," he said. I've just been offering, talking to local people, asking if I can give service in any way."

Guy, who said the whole experience has been a "leap of faith," said he plans on staying until local companies can keep up with the tree work needed.

Guy said he's also looking out for any elderly people who may need help removing any debris, and is willing to provide free service for those who cannot afford some of the work done.

Guy said he was especially interested in coming to the state because he has already been through two hurricanes himself, and felt he could share some of his experiences to help out residents.

"I know what community's about," he said. "I know I can at least be a helping hand."

I am so grateful for these guys...going to Hopatcong...my former neighborhood. I have a lot of friends there & they were hit so hard. I'd love to be able to thank everyone, from every state, who has come to our aide. They are true heroes. Bless you all!!!
