Please Don't Tell Me There's Nothing To Do in J-Town!

The Jefferson Arts Committee and its sub-groups have so many 2012 events planned that are free, very inexpensive, or very reasonably priced!

When you think of spring, perhaps you think of budding trees, daffodils pushing through the ground,  green grass, and all of nature in full bloom. When the Jefferson Arts Committee thinks of spring, they’re thinking of getting you out of the house and involved in some exciting events, activities, and performances through the end of the year! 

March 24 and 25: The talented thespians of the Jefferson Community Players will present and perform an original play entitled Five Famous Women to celebrate Women’s History Month complete with drama, poetry and humor at the Jefferson Township Senior Center at 3 p.m. both days. Admission is $5 per person.  

To celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts USA, they will also host a Juliet Low Tea Service on the same days at 2 p.m., where you’ll enjoy scout-related activities and a selection of baked goods and teas in china cups. Advance reservations are required at $5 per person.

April 20: The Arts Committee and Tumbling Dice Entertainment will be hosting a fundraising event with a Texas Hold ‘em Poker Tournament at the on Legion Road.  Early buy-ins by April 16 are $100 with 1,000 bonus chips.  If you prefer, you can play Blackjack with a $20 admission!  Advance reservations strongly suggested, and all admissions include sandwiches, beer, and refreshments.

April 28:  The Jefferson Community Chorus, the Jefferson Community Jazz Band, and the Jefferson Community Players join forces to present a delightful show entitled A Night at the Movies.  It will be presented in an intimate setting in the cafeteria of the at 7:30 p.m. Advance admission is $10 per person in advance or $12 at the door.

May 5: Step back to the 1960’s when the British Invasion Tribute Band return to Jefferson Township for an encore performance (the band appeared on the main stage last Jefferson Township Day).  They’ll take the stage in the auditorium, performing the songs of iconic British groups followed by the music of celebrated American groups and ending with an extraordinary finale paying tribute to the foursome from Liverpool—The Beatles. Advance tickets are only $5 each; at the door $8.

June 29: The first of nine FREE Summer Gazebo Concerts at the beautiful Victorian Gazebo in the with a performance by the Jefferson Township Community Band.  With the exception of Friday, July 13, there will be a free concert every single Friday night at 7 p.m. ending on August 31.  Enjoy live music ranging from doo wop to the oldies, classic rock to hard rock, classic country to the music of Buddy Holly, and good old fashioned rock ‘n roll.

The end of June also marks the completion of another year of JAC’s Student Artists of the Month program and that will be celebrated with a reception and guest speaker for all the artists whose work was chosen and displayed at the library throughout the 2011-12 school year. 

July 14:  Then, it’ll be summer and that means the 26th annual Jefferson Township Day celebration on the fields of JTHS complete with arts, crafts, and merchandise vendors, food vendors, live entertainment, and activities for the entire family.  The evening concert on the main stage will feature Phil ‘n the Void—New Jersey's premier rock 'n roll party band playing timeless rock-pop classics you can't help but sing along with and move your feet to.  Then the culmination of the evening will be the best aerial fireworks display ever!  Free admission until 5:30 pm, then $2 per adult/$1 per children under 12.

September 16: We’re not done—the Arts Committee and Berkshire Travel will sponsor a Bus Trip to New York City making three stops—the Ground Zero 9/11 memorial, Trinity Church, and Mario Battelli’s Eataly!  Advance reservations at $23 per person.

Back by popular demand, the second annual Coach/Vera Bradley Bingo Raffle Night will return in November—date to be determined.

December 1: Before, you know it, it will be time once again for the 7th
annual Christmas in the Village in the historic Village of Milton and vicinity.  Entertainment is free throughout the day.
