Detours Set for Bridge Construction

Traveling around town will get a bit trickier for Jefferson residents in January, when the state Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to .

The project will be completed in four stages, according to the DOT. One lane in each direction will be maintained on Weldon and Espanong Roads throughout the project, DOT officials said. Ramps will be closed during stages two and three, ranging from about March until the summer.

During stage two, the ramp from Weldon Road going south to Route 15 South will be closed. The detour will involve traffic continuing onto Espanong Road, turning left onto Edison Road, and then exiting onto Route 15 South.

Also during this stage, the ramp from Route 15 North to Weldon Road south will be closed. Traffic will be directed to turn left onto Edison Road by using the existing jughandle at Route 15 North/Edison Road, continue along Edison Road westbound and turn right onto Espanong Road.

During stage three, the ramp from Espanong Road to Route 15 North will be closed. Traffic will be directed to take Espanong Road South to Edison Road, turn left onto Edison Road eastbound and turn left onto Route 15 North. In addition, the ramp from Route 15 South to Weldon Road North will be closed. Traffic will continue along Route 15 South to Edison Road, turn right onto Edison Road and turn right onto Espanong Road, which changes to Weldon Road.

The bridge will get an uplift that will include deck slab and parapet replacement and repairs to supra- and sub-structures.
