UPDATE: Flooding Closes Part of Route 15

River cresting at Cedar Terrace, police said.

Route 15 South was closed down starting at Edison Road starting at about 6:45 p.m. on Sunday night, police said. As of approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, only one lane of Route 15 North was open.

“The (Rockaway) river is cresting at Cedar Terrace, and water is starting to come out onto Route 15,” said Sgt. Paul Castimore of the Jefferson Police. “So we made the decision to close Route 15. The northbound side is down to one lane, and that could close through the night if the flooding gets worse.”

Castimore said it would be difficult to suggest an alternate route.

“I know Route 80 East is closed in Denville, so it will be hard for people to get anywhere south and east of here,” Castimore said. “We really suggest that people just stay put and give things time to get back to normal.”

Castimore said he was not sure how long the closure of Route 15 would last.
