Latest List of Road Closures in Jefferson Township

Updated as of Sunday afternoon.

The Jefferson Township police department provided the following list of road closures and other problems caused by Hurricane Irene. All of these closures are in effect as of Sunday afternoon.

 Oak Ridge

  • Berkshire Valley Road is closed between Longwood Lake Road and Taylor Road due to trees and power lines down.
  • Longwood Lake Road is closed. Residents cannot get in or out of Longwood Lake, due to water over the bridge. In the event of an emergency, fire department apparatus can get through the water.
  • Cozy Lake Road is closed due to trees and power lines down, and water over several sections of the road.
  • Dover Milton Road and Schoolhouse Road both have several sections of water over the roadway. The roads are open, but motorists are being hampered.
  • Route 23 South is closed at Green Pond Rd. due to flooding.
  • The Hartung Dam off of Roosevelt Road is taking on a great deal of water. This dam takes water out of Sparta and onto Ridge Road by the Bowling Green Golf Course. Jeff Elam of the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are assessing the dam now.
  • The A&P Supermarket is open and running on generator power.

Lake Hopatcong

  • Taylor Road is closed due to downed trees.
  • Northwood Road is closed going into Hopatcong due to downed trees and power lines.
  • Illinois Road in Prospect Point is closed due to downed trees and power lines.
  • Mountainview Road in Lake Shawnee is closed due to downed trees and power lines.
  • Nolan’s Point Road is closed due to downed trees and power lines.
  • Croft Road near Winona Trail is impassable due to water coverage.

Castimore said that all DPW workers have been working since midnight on Saturday to address as many of the problems as possible.

Castimore also said that almost the entire Oak Ridge section of the township is without power.
