They say March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, but the month’s weather was somewhere in between, staying at cheetah level. Despite spring’s official start, short bursts of snow and below average temperatures were stagnant.

‘Heartbroken’ Family Agrees to Give Up Dog

After months and months of fighting, Susan and Gary Kolb made the decision to finally give their dog over to a shelter that specializes in handling specific K9s. The family faced charges for not having one of their dogs muzzled in Jefferson, despite a court order, and were forced to surrender the pets to shelters.

‘Priority’ Roads Eyed by Twp. for 2013 Paving

A number of roads in Jefferson Township are being considered for repairs and paving in 2013 due to their poor standing, but the price of asphalt and budget restraints are slowing down the process. Schoolhouse and Chamberlain Roads are the most important, according to town officials.

Morris Plea Deal Paves Way for Pennsylvania Homicide Trial

Philip Cise spend two weeks last summer allegedly committing numerous crimes between New Jersey and Pennsylvania, one of which resulted in a stolen vehicle in Jefferson. Cise was in court this month to take a plea bargain allowing for him to be expedited to Pennsylvania for a homicide trial.

The township’s finest welcomed two new officers in March, but also acknowledged the passing of longtime dispatcher Hank Merz, who died suddenly on Feb. 15. The rescue squad also swore in new members.

Jefferson Police Consider Mobile Cameras for Parks

Local law enforcement approached the township committee to discuss potentially adding two mobile cameras in parks to combat vandalism as well as drug use among teens. The idea was sparked by police receiving reports of known drug transactions taking place after school.
