Oak Ridge Family Needs Help Paying for Dog's Medical Bills

Jager the dachshund's major emergency surgery in early November has hit Jennifer and Ed Pfeil's finances hard.

Jefferson Township resident Jennifer Pfiel's GoFundMe effort wastes no time getting to the point in and online plea she made on behalf of herself and husband Ed.

"Jager is in need of immediate spinal surgery," she wrote of their beloved dachshund on Nov. 5. "He has lost about 70 percent function of his back legs. Beginning with a yelp, we brought him to the vet and found out he has calcified buildup between vertebrae 12/13. After four weeks of steroids he is not improving, MRI performed. ... [S]urgery is the next step."

The Pfeils went ahead with the operation and treatment for their four-legged family member, and Jager has been recovering since. Now the Oak Ridge couple, who have a toddler, face huge veterinary bills.

"Insurance has released a check to us which we are waiting on; the total they approved was approximately $2,500," wrote Ed Feil, offering an update nine days ago on the GoFundMe campaign page. "While this does help, we are roughly out of pocket $5,200 after total vet costs from this ... experience."  [Ellipsis Feil's.]

He added that the goal of $7,350 on the page is to cover surgery and the followup visits to come. So far, $1,070 has been raised.
