A Minute to Spare

Take the time out to visit the library and come away with more than a book.

Where do you go with all the spare time you have in your day?  Between getting your kids to the bus on time, making it to work with minutes to spare, then being home in time to cook, doing homework and getting to the game on time you must have one spare minute-right? I am sure many of us will be laughing out loud with the mere thought that we have one more minute to spare in our day. We are able to fit in a lot in the course of a day, and by the end of the day do we really remember the special moments?

Sometimes the special moments can be found in the corners of the public library.  As a mom of two children I am always trying to expose my boys to different experiences that will enrich their lives.  Even in my busy life I like to devote time to going to story time with my children so I can have special moments to remember at the end of the day. Finding their favorite books, reading with the group or successfully using the card catalog system to find their favorite shark book are just some of the moments we get to share with one another each time we go to the library.

Story time gives me and my children the opportunity to share those special moments together during sing-a-longs, acting out books or locating our favorite author or getting to see our library friends. Sweet embraces, new friendships and learning to read are just a few of the benefits of participating in the library programs at the Jefferson Township Public Library. Along the way children have the chance to foster a love for reading and develop an understanding of what reading has to offer. It's really worth your time!

In a time where everything has to be "clicked" on to be read and all reading is computerized, it's nice to know that Margaret and H.A. Rey can still be found on the shelf. Ms. Chris, the head children's librarian, reaches all children on an individual basis and designs programs to give every child what they need to foster a love for reading and a comfortable place to develop their skills. The programs are age appropriate and incorporate music, art, and movement. Whether your child is six months old or six years old there is something for everyone at the library.

Many women also have the opportunity to meet and get to know one another during story time, too. Every mom needs the opportunity to communicate with other moms to find out the news around the community, discuss their children and just connect with other women going through the same things as they are. This is also what the Jefferson Junior Woman's Club has to offer.  Usually there is at least one or more moms who knows or is a member of the Woman's Club at the library.  If you would like to find out more about the Jefferson Juniors you could always ask at the front desk because chances are someone there knows a Junior. So, try to steal a few minutes from your day and stop by the library-it's worth your time for your children.
