Hundreds of Pounds Gained from Halloween Candy Drive

I asked, and Jefferson stepped up and delivered.... Halloween Candy Galore!

About a month ago, I put out a call to my fellow Jeffersonians: Help me collect candy for Operation Gratitude to send in care packages to deployed soldiers. It started with an email sent out to the schools, a local business, and Jefferson Patch.  A reader who saw the post about the drive and her son jumped on board with their boy scout troop and so it began.  Collection boxes were painted, flyers printed and before I knew it, it was time to pick up the loot.

I am proud to say that the residents of Jefferson donated over 300 pounds of candy to this great cause.

Special thanks to:

Dan at PostNet for all of your contributions to this drive. You are truly an asset to this community.

Peggy,  for organizing a box at the pancake breakfast, and  Owen Cheevers and his best friend Austin Frank, both of Pack 49, Webelos Den 2, who gave all
of their Halloween candy for this drive.

Ellen T. Briggs School, Cozy Lake School, Milton School, and Jefferson Township Middle and High Schools for hosting collection boxes.

My son, Airman First Class Anthony Kuzma, who happened to be home on leave just in time to haul all the poundage of candy in an out of schools, house, cars, etc.

Everyone who gave their excess candy to this great cause.  Feedback from participants shows that all thought it went smoothly, so I hope to run the drive again next year (although I might "hit up" the local VFW's for contributions toward shipping costs - hint, hint).

Any needleworkers out there? They are accepting hat and scarf donations until early December. Why not take a few hours and whip one up?
