Dolores A. Pollard, 84, of Oak Ridge, died from complications of advanced age and illness on Jan. 4, according to a notice on the website of Goble Funeral Home.

Dolores Bayor was born in Newark and spent most of her life in Riverdale and Oak Ridge. She spent 27 years teaching social studies in the West Milford school district. Her family said education surpassed all her interests and that teaching was her true calling.

Pollard did have other interests, however: solving the New York Times crossword puzzles, reading, sewing, cooking and discussing politics. As a Jefferson Township “townie,” she often worked at the Board of Elections and assisted in mailing out property tax bills. She was a member of the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary and a parishioner of The United Methodist Church at Newfoundland, where she served on its executive board for many years.
Her family said she will be remembered best for being a faithful housewife, devoted mom, and consummate educator.

Dolores Pollard is survived bysons Laurence F. Pollard and his wife Jean of Stockholm and Harold C. Pollard of Oregon, daughter Colleen B. Loller, grandson Robert Loller and his wife Alexis of Sussex and Carol Auer of Cedar Crest and Myrna Tarrant and her husband Jim of Falls Church, Va.

Arrangements were managed by Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home in Newfoundland. She interred beside her parents at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the United Methodist Church at Newfoundland, 65 LaRue Road, PO Box 288, Newfoundland 07435.
