Former Jefferson Teacher Eileen Oswin Dies at 79

Oswin earned degrees from Trenton State Teacher's College and Montclair State University before becoming a teacher in Jefferson and Mendham.

Eileen W. Oswin, who once taught mathematics for the Jefferson Township Board of Education, died at the Bristol Glen Assisted Living Facility in Newton, according to a notice on the website of Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home in Landing. She was 79 years old.

Oswin, formerly of Roxbury Township, was a native of Perth Amboy. She lived in Roxbury for more than 50 years before moving to Bristol Glen in 2012.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Trenton State Teacher’s College and her master’s in math from Montclair State University. During her career as an educator she taught in Jefferson and also for the Mendham Board of Education. 

Oswin, a widow, was a parishioner of St. Therese Church in Succasunna. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, baking, crossword puzzles, reading, traveling and enjoying her family.

She is survived by her children Patricia Evans and husband Christian, Eric Oswin and wife Deborah and William Roderick Oswin Jr. and wife Teresa; siblings Jack Wintermute, William Wintermute, Bette Wintermute Woods Price and Ginger Castranova; and six grandchildren.

Leber-Lakeside arranged Oswin's funeral and she lies in rest at Fairmount Cemetery in Chatham.
