Richard J. Fitzpatrick, WWII Veteran, Dies at 88

After the war, he attended Spadea Criminology School and worked for entities including Picatinny Arsenal.

Richard J. Fitzpatrick, formerly of Jefferson Township, died in Wharton following a lengthy illness last Tuesday with his family at his side. He was 88 years old.

Fitpatrick, a Boonton native, lived his life in Jefferson and Wharton.

He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman from 1943-1946, spending his time during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations, 9th Army.

He attended Spadea Criminology School and worked for the Delaware Lackawana Western Railroad Company and Picatinny Arsenal.

Fitzpatrick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florence Callaghan Fitzpatrick, sister Ann Masuelli of Rockaway, brother John Fitzpatrick of Florida and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand- and grand-grand nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday 10 a.m. at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St. in Wharton. Interment will take place at North Hardyston Cemetery in Hamburg.
