Honor the Victims of 9/11 This Weekend

We have a list of things you can do.

Looking for something to do for fun this weekend? Or maybe a way to honor the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks? We have some suggestions for you here.

Where/When: From 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Thursday at in Hopatcong. Why Go: To learn to defend yourself from a potentially life-threatening situation with the help of the Gen Lee Ju-Jitsu Club. Pricing: $10 per class.

 
Where/When: From 11 to 12:45 a.m. on Thursday at the  in Long Valley. Why Go: Because the center will be offering two types of yoga classes, including “chair” yoga and “gentle” yoga, directed by instructor Charlene Gattuso. Pricing: $10 per class, or $37 for six classes.

Why Go: Because you are a beginner who wants to start running, regardless of age.

Where/When: From 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday at in Chatham. Why Go: Mothers and their babies can come to this fun, social time and receive expert advice in a safe and supportive environment.  Pricing: Free.

When/Where: From 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the in Warren. Why Go: The Music Under the Stars series continues with the sounds of the British '60s and '70s. Bring your picnic dinner and blanket and enjoy the music of Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, James Taylor, and more. Cunningham infuses finger-style guitar method to help soothe, relax and reminisce. Pricing: Free. 

When/Where: From 4:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday at in Warren Township. Why Go: For children ages 8-12 to move their bodies and develop proper exercise patterns to keep them strong and injury free. Pricing: Free introductory session.

When/Where: At 7 p.m. on Thursday at in Hillsborough. Why Go: Because Broadway stars will help celebrate the announcement of the new HHS Theatre Season. Pricing: Free admission.

Where/When: At 11 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at in Morristown. Why Go: To enjoy great live music. Price: No cover.

Where/When: At 11 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at in Morris Township. Why Go: Because this exhibit, inspired by a collection of rare books at the arboretum, will focus on the roll of medical botany during the Civil War. Price: Free.

Where/When: From noon to 10 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday adjacent to the Jets' Atlantic Health Training Center, 180 Park Avenue, Florham Park. Why Go: Because you can bring your family out for a great weekend of rides, food, games and great times with neighbors. Pricing: $5 per person; $10 four-day pass.

Where/When: From 7:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday at ebastian's Steakhouse in Morristown. Why Go: Spend your Friday night with live music at Sebastian’s Steak House. Pricing: No cover.

Where/When: From 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at in Harding. Why Go: Because you can spend a Friday night with some wine and some beautifully serene landscapes made with pastels. Pricing: Free.

Where/When: From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday . Why Go: To bring the whole family by and belt out some tunes with Kip. Pricing: Free.

Where/When: From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the . Why Go: Because families can enjoy the benefits of yoga by learning a variety of classic poses, presented by Michelle Magnotti of Yoga Flows Inc.

Where/When: From 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 214 West Mill Road in Long Valley. Why Go: The Fuzzbox is a place for students in grades seven through 12 can hang out in a fun, supervised atmosphere where they can go to be involved in sports, games, music, art, and more, while being provided with free food and drinks. Fridays are for high school students and Saturdays are for middle school students. Pricing: Free.

Where/When: From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the  in Long Valley. Why Go: Because it’s a celebration of Long Valley resident Michael Goodwin’s outdoor photography. Pricing: Free.

Where/When: From 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at in Madison. Why Go: Because a night at the theater sounds like a great way to spend your weekend. Plus, this play hasn’t been seen on The Shakespeare Theatre stage since 2003. Pricing: $32 to $55.

Where/When: From noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at The Green in Morristown. Why Go: Because Americans for Liberty will honoring the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001. Pricing: Free.

Where/When: From 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at . Why Go: You can stop by the library and check out this new collection of photographs recently added to its Digital Collections. Pricing: Free.

Where/When: At 8 p.m. on Thursday at  in Morristown. Why Go: Because a Saturday night laughing at Jim Breuer’s antics sounds like loads of fun. Pricing: $32 to $67.

Where/When: Starting at at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 12 and trekking 20 miles through Harding and Chatham, then back to Morristown. Why Go: Because you’d like a workout to start your Saturday morning, or because the weather is warming up. Rain or snow cancels.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Railroad Plaza and Fairmont Avenue in Chatham. Why Go: To get some of the best Jersey Fresh produce, Jersey Shore seafood, pasture-raised meat, poultry and eggs, honey, baked goods, fresh mozzarella, specialty prepared foods of all kinds, and more. The market will also have cooking demonstrations. Pricing: Bring your wallet.

Where/When: From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at 10 Arrowhead Road in Morris Township. Why Go: Because their will be lots of furniture, toys, household items, bikes and sports equipment for the choosing. Pricing: Bring your wallet.

Where/When: From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at in Hopatcong. Why Go: Because this is the third annual Tom Wear Memorial Swim to honor K9 teams called to action on 9/11. Pricing: Free.

Where/When: At 7 p.m. on Saturday at the . Why Go: Because performers such as Riverside Rhythm and Rhyme, Joe McKay and several others will be performing. Pricing: Free.

When/Where: From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Basking Ridge. Why Go: To welcome the fall season with a festival of exhibits, guided nature walks, crafts, and wildlife. Kids will enjoy exploring the grand opening of the new Nature Detective Trail while adults can rummage through used books and a wide variety of nature themed items for sale. Pricing: Free admission.

When/Where: From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at in Basking Ridge. Why Go: To help raise funds for this award-winning band and drive off shining. Pricing: Donations gratefully accepted. 

When/Where: From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at in Basking Ridge. Why Go: Celebrate family ties and fun. Amusements and activities for all ages. Pony and train rides, crafts and music, all help to create family memories . Pricing: Free admission.

When/Where: From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Leonard J. Buck Garden in Far Hills. Why Go: To save money on soil amendments and fertilizer while joining the green movement. Get ready to get dirty and learn to enrich your garden soil and protect the environment. Pricing: $12 per person. Registration required.

When/Where: From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at in Warren Township. Why Go: To cycle for proceeds to benefit cutting-edge research and programs at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Be a "Virtual Rider" and help raise funds without participating in the picturesque 40 or 80 mile route. Either way, you help pedal towards a cure. Pricing: Donations gratefully accepted. Registration required.

When/Where: From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at in Bridgewater. Check event status in case of rain. Why Go: Come see the country's top show dogs compete for the coveted title of Best In Show. A variety of vendors and the opportunity to see different breeds up close and speak with knowledgeable owners and breeders make this event perfect for "man's best friend" and owners. Pricing: Free admission.  

When/Where: From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Adult Day Center in Bridgewater. Why Go: Because local residents are invited to bring their whole family to enjoy fun activities, massages, and fitness demonstrations while learning options of on how to live a healthy life. Somerset Patriots mascot, Sparkee, will be on hand to join in the fun of contests and prizes. Pricing: Free admission. 

When/Where: At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at in Bridgewater. Why Go: For children ages 3 and older to kick off the school year with a celebration of silly songs. Pricing: Free. Registration is not required.

When/Where: From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at in Hillsborough. Why Go: To learn how to build your own rain garden to help soak up rainwater. Hey, Irene...How does your garden grow? Pricing: $20. Registration required. 

When/Where: At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at in Hillsborough. Why Go: To hear this emotional, original staged reading by Hillsborough resident Midge Guerrera honoring 9/11 victims and their families on this 10th anniversary of the terror attack. Pricing: Free admission. Reservations not required.

When/Where: At 10 a.m. on Saturday at Lowes in Hillsborough. Why Go: The Build and Grow clinic continues with building a cool police car with stickers and a flashing light. Pricing: Free. Registration required.

Where/When: From 2:15 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at . Why Go: Take some time out on Sunday to view “Spectral Selves,” an art show featuring paintings, prints, and drawings worked in oil, acrylic, and Conté. Pricing: Free.

When/Where: At noon Sunday at in Liberty Corner. Why Go: To witness and honor the dedication of the fire company's 9/11 Memorial intended to memorialize the sacrifice of the 343 firefighters of the Fire Department of the City of New York who lost their lives on that day. A piece of steel from the Twin Towers is incorporated into the monument. Mayor John Malay will be the keynote speaker.  Pricing: Free. 

When/Where: From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at in Warren Township. Why Go: To check out a wide variety of antique, classic, race cars, and motorcycles. Don't miss the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. 
Pricing: Free admission.

When/Where: At 9 a.m. Sunday at the 9/11 Heroes Memorial at the in Warren Township. Why Go: To honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11 and find comfort among neighbors and a nation. Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Events begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue throughout the doubleheader on Sunday at in Bridgewater. Why Go: To bid on high quality sports memorabilia and participate in a tribute to those who perished in 9/11. All monies raised from the auction will be donated to Operation Shoebox New Jersey. Pricing: $10 for special reserved seating. 

When/Where: At 12:45 p.m. on Sunday at in Bridgewater. Why Go: To honor the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. In addition to the traditional program, there will be a Moment of Remembrance. Come unite with neighbors and a nation. Pricing: Free. 

When/Where: From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at in Hillsborough. Why Go: To come out to the farm for a day of fun while honoring our nation's bravest heroes. Try your luck at navigating the Freedom Maze. All proceeds from the maze and farm tours will go directly to the EMS's of Hillsborough. Pricing: Activities vary.

When/Where: At 8:45 a.m. on Sunday at the 9/11 Memorial Clock Tower in Somerville. Why Go: To witness and honor the planting of a memorial tree and the reading of the names of the 39 Somerset county residents killed at the World Trade Center. Pricing: Free.

Towaco Jazz, Arts & Crafts Festival Where/When: From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the  in Montville. Why Go: The 11th annual festival by the Towaco Civic Association will feature craft vendors, food and live music. Pricing: Free.

 Where/When: Begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday at  in Montville. Why Go: Montville VFW Post 5481 and Montville Township are honoring those lost on 9/11. Pricing: Free.

 When/Where: From 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Somerset County Court House Green. Why Go:Because over 30 artists will entertain you with the smooth sounds of Jazz. An array of affordable artwork and crafts as well as delicious food and beverages will be available. Help support our troops by donating personal care items for Operation Shoebox being collected at the JazzFest. Pricing: Free admission.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Community Theatre  When/Where: Begins at 7 p.m. at The Community Theatre, and will move to the reflecting pool in front of Vail Mansion. Why Go: Because you want to honor those lost, and those who aided others, on Sept. 11, 2011. Pricing: Free.
