Alleged Thief Took $250, Watch From Unlocked Car, Cops Say

Mud left on passenger seat tipped off car owner, police report.

Hopatcong Police are looking for someone who broke into a vehicle overnight and allegedly stole money and a watch, according to Lt. Thomas Kmetz.

A resident reported to police on June 30 that someone broke into their car on Camp Trail, Kmetz said.

The resident left his wallet in the vehicle, Kmetz said. The alleged thief took $250 out of the wallet but left it in the car, and also took a G-Shock watch, Kmetz said.

The car owner said he knew the vehicle was entered because the passenger side seat had mud on it, Kmetz said.
