An area woman received a huge surprise recently when she attended a Fall Fitness Fair at The Fit Experience in Sparta, the gym where she works as a front desk clerk, the Advertiser News South reported.
Lisa Mueller, an amputee, heard the sound of fire trucks approaching the gym on that October day. The sound came from arriving vehicles for the Jefferson Fire Department Co. No. 2 and the Jefferson Township Rescue Squad—the agencies that rescued her from a May motor vehicle accident that led to the loss of her leg.
Mueller, who now uses a prosthetic limb and returned to her job three weeks ago, said the shocking encounter reconnected her with the very people who had saved her life. The responders were in on the reunion, and they brought flowers for the woman, who reacted with gratitude, joy and tears.
"I feel like I have been given a second chance at life," Mueller told the Advertiser News. "I'm lucky to be alive and I feel stronger every day."
