Bank Robber Linked to Recent String of Route 10 Incidents, Prosecutor Says

Succasunna man accused of three robberies in the past week, including a knifepoint incident at a gas station.

A Roxbury man was arrested Friday for a string of incidents, including a knife-point robbery attempt of a gas station and a bank robbery, along the same stretch of Route 10 in Succasunna during the past week, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Derek Morisco, 23, of Succasunna, was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, one count of second-degree robbery, one count of unlawful possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of possession of a weapon and one count of fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight.

According to the prosecutor's office, Morisco's spree began on Monday when he passed a note to a cashier demanding money at the Harmon Discount Store at 274 Route 10 shortly before 6:30 p.m. Morisco then left the scene on foot, the prosecutor's office said.

Two days later, Morisco attempted to rob a gas station attendant at knifepoint at Fuel 10 at 65 Route 10 at about 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the prosecutor's office said. The gas station attendant locked himself in a booth and Morisco fled the scene on his bicycle, the prosecutor's office said.

Dressed in all back, Morisco was caught on security video passing a note demanding money at the Wells Fargo Bank at 106 Route 10 at about 4:40 p.m. Thursday, according to the prosecutor's office.

Morisco has been remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $350,000 full cash, bond or property bail with no 10 percent option. Bail conditions also included no contact with the victims, a waiver of extradition and surrender of his passport.
