Churchgoer's Car Stolen During Mass, Police Say

Michael Myer, 30, has been accused of stealing jacket with keys inside while owner attended Mass last weekend.

A township man stole a car from a church parking lot last weekend after grabbing a coat and car keys while the owner attended Mass, Jefferson Police said.

Michael Myer, 30, was charged with theft after he entered St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Saturday and removed a jacket from the coat section during Mass, Capt. Eric Wilsusen said in a statement.

Myer used the keys in the jacket to steal a Cadillac CTS from the parking lot, Wilsusen said. The vehicle's OnStar system tracked its location to East Orange, Wilsusen said.

The vehicle was then tracked on Interstate 80 where Denville Police arrested Myer, Wilsusen said.

Myer was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Wilsusen said Myer and the victim grew up in Jefferson and may know each other, NJ.com reported.
