Cops Issue 236 Summonses in Seatbelt Crackdown

Jefferson Police log 92 hours under federal grant.

The Jefferson Township Police Department issued 236 summonses between Monday, May 23 and midnight on Sunday, June 5, during the , according to Captain Eric Wilsusen.

The department received a $4,000 federal grant to pay officers overtime funds to add personnel to the patrol units. The department ran 23 four-hour details between May 23 and June 5.

Of the 236 summonses issued, 179 were for failure to wear a seatbelt, 32 were for speeding, 10 were for driving with a suspended license, six were for reckless driving, four were for driving while intoxicated, three were for improper child restraints, and there was one drug arrest and one arrest of an uninsured driver, Wilsusen said.
