Cops: Man Arrested With Safe in Hand

The following arrest information was supplied by the Jefferson Township police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Evan McLaughlin, 23, of Jefferson Township, was arrested and charged with burglary and theft after an incident on Thursday, police said.

Police received a call about a suspicious person possibly attempting to break into a house of Berkshire Valley Road. The section of Berkshire Valley Road has seen five burglaries with the last few months, police said.

Upon arrival, Officer Rodger Davis arrested McLaughlin while he was exiting the window of residence, poice said. He was in possession of a safe at the time, police said.

McLaughlin was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Department’s Crime Scene Unit assisted in the investigation. The investigation will continue by the Detective Bureau to see if any of the other area burglaries are linked in any way.
