Drunken Driver Faces Manslaughter Charge in Fatal Hit-and-Run, Prosecutor Says

Dover resident accused of killing pedestrian in Rockaway Township parking lot late Sunday night.

A Dover man was drunk when he struck and killed a pedestrian in a Rockaway Township parking lot before fleeing the scene late Sunday night, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Edward G. Koloski, 26, was charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree death by auto and second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.

According to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, a man was found in the ShopRite parking lot on Route 46 in Rockaway Township with injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle shortly before midnight Sunday. The man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Troopers responded a short time later to a disabled vehicle on Interstate 80 eastbound. The vehicle had "extensive front-end damage" and the troopers detected the driver, who was the only occupant, was under the influence of alcohol, according to the prosecutor's office.

Koloski was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.

Judge James M. DeMarzo set bail at $350,000 cash, bond or property.
