Former River Styx Grill Owner Sentenced to 5 Years for Heroin Distribution

Jefferson resident will be eligible for parole in one year and eight months.

A Jefferson resident who pleaded guilty to distributing heroin out of his Hopatcong restaurant was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison.

John Davieau, 56, will be eligible for parole in one year and eight months, according to NJ.com. Davieau's attorney said his client plans to apply for admission into the Intensive Supervision Program to be released earlier, according to the report.

Davieau's attorney said his client got involved in the drug trade when he developed an "emotional relationship" with a Hopatcong heroin addict, NJ.com reported.

The addict, Rachael Dean, was one of seven people charged in the case and pleaded guilty in October to possession of heroin.

Davieau, whose sale of the River Styx Grill is pending, pleaded guilty in November to conspiracy to possess heroin with intent to distribute.

Davieau and others were arrested Aug. 6 after a six-month investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Hopatcong Borough Police, Jefferson Township Police and other law enforcement agencies.
