Heavy snow collapsed the roof at Katz's Marina early Monday morning.

According to Jefferson Police Capt. Eric Wilsusen, Officer Dave Wojtach responded to the Stonehenge Road establishment for an activated burglar alarm at about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The officer soon realized the alarm was activated when a portion of the structure collapsed, Wilsusen said.

The building was not occupied and there were no injuries. Jefferson Fire Co. No. 2 and Tom Mahoney, the township's construction code official, responded to the scene and determined half of the marina's maintenance/storage facility where 30 to 40 boats were contained had collapsed, Wilsusen said.

Looks more like the building collapsed then just the roof. Bad deal either way.

People who have their boats stored there should check out their Boat-Home owners Insurance policy to see if they are covered in situations of an indoor structural collapse incident that damaged their property housed inside their rental space.

Such a bummer story. On a far less important note (but still worth noting), that's a really sneaky way to steal another publication's photo without giving any credit!

JKK is correct. This picture belongs to The Lake Hopatcong News. It's right there on their front page. Taken by Karen Fucito.

This is typical Patch reporting - they report info from other publications. Patch is a national organization - I don't know if they all follow suit. This "virtual rag" was a decent publication when Brendan Kuty was editor.
